Women’s Social Group

This is a social group open to ladies from the Parish and we always welcome new members. We meet in the morning, of the second and fourth Thursday of each month but for a short break mid-summer and early January. We have now 27 members and most are of a “mature” age but we are young in spirit and would love younger women to join us and bring new ideas!

As a group, we support a specific charity through our fundraising, in 2016 to 2018 it is currently Canine Partners, a charity which helps people with disabilities by providing a specially trained dog to befriend and physically help their lucky owners.

Our yearly calendar includes outings to venues such as gardens, museums and other places of special interest to us, this takes place on the second Thursday of each month; on the fourth Thursday, one of our members holds a coffee morning, helped by another member of the group and those occasions are very sociable and relaxed events, as well as fund raising, as those present are asked for a modest contribution (£2) and we also hold a bring- and-buy table.

We participate fully in Church life at St Peter’s, holding a tombola table at the Spring and Christmas Fairs, decorating our own tree at the Christmas Tree Festival and attending services; some members help with the Friday coffee morning at Church or/and Flower arranging, some of us are in the Church Choir, one is Church Warden, one Secretary to the Church Council and so on…

Our group is going to celebrate its 60th Anniversary this summer by organizing a lunch party at a member’s home, one who kindly offers us a space large enough for us and our many guests! On this occasion, the Committee of six members, under the capable leadership of our Chairwoman, will make sure that all is ready for it, allocating tasks to anyone willing… This Committee also set the yearly programme, after the AGM, taking into consideration the suggestions of all the members.

All of our activities are fully reported each month in our parish magazine ‘Keynotes’.   Would anyone keen to see what our group has to offer please speak to one of the several contacts named there or to any existing member.
